OpenAI has introduced a marketplace for GPTs, called the GPT Store, accessible via a new tab in the ChatGPT web client. This store showcases various GPTs developed by OpenAI's partners and the broader developer community. Users can explore GPTs, categorized under themes like lifestyle, writing, research, programming, and education. To utilize the GPT Store, users are required to have a subscription to one of OpenAI's premium plans: ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Enterprise, or the newly introduced ChatGPT Team.
Since the GPT Builder launch in November, over 3 million bots, referred to as GPTs, have been crafted by users. Initially slated for a November launch, the opening of the GPT Store was postponed to December and then to January. This platform enables creators of custom chatbots to share their versions of ChatGPT publicly. Currently, creating and utilizing custom GPTs is a privilege exclusive to subscribers of OpenAI's paid tiers.
Furthermore, OpenAI has announced an upcoming revenue-sharing initiative for GPT creators, set to begin in the first quarter of the year. Under this program, GPT builders will earn based on the user engagement their chatbots receive. However, details regarding the implementation of this payment scheme are yet to be disclosed.
