TikTok has introduced “AI Alive,” a new generative tool that brings still images to life within its Stories feature. Exclusively available through the Story Camera, this AI-powered function turns photos into short animated videos by adding movement, sound, and dynamic effects.

With AI Alive, static scenes can transform into immersive moments: skies can subtly shift, waves may ripple, and group photos can show enhanced expressions and gestures. This release follows TikTok’s earlier use of AI for text-to-image generation. It takes creativity further by allowing users to produce animated videos from photos – a step ahead of Instagram and Snapchat, which haven’t launched this yet.

Each AI-generated video will be clearly labeled and embedded with C2PA metadata, a digital signature that signals the use of artificial intelligence, even outside the platform. TikTok stresses its commitment to safety, using moderation tools to review photos, prompts, and generated content before they are shared.

The tool is designed to prevent misuse, with built-in checks and a final review once a story is published. Users can also flag inappropriate videos. Creators can access the feature by selecting the blue “+” button from their Inbox or Profile page, choosing a photo, and tapping the AI Alive icon in the editing panel.

This launch underlines TikTok’s growing focus on AI-enhanced creativity, offering new visual possibilities while ensuring transparency and content integrity. The update positions TikTok as a front-runner in the race to merge artificial intelligence with everyday storytelling.
