India is the largest market globally for the app, accounting for approximately 22% of all Telegram downloads in this region. The top three countries with the largest number of downloads also include Russia and Indonesia.
Analytical platform Sensor Tower, specializing in processing data about mobile applications, announced that the popular Telegram messenger has crossed another milestone. Telegram is one of the apps with over a billion downloads – there are already fifteen such apps (Instagram, WhatsApp, Netflix and others).
Data for the analysis of the number of downloads of mobile applications is collected all over the world. The report noted that India has become the largest market for Telegram. A fifth of all downloads of the messenger, about 22%, are in this country. In second place in terms of the number of downloads is Russia (about 10%), and in third place is Indonesia (about 8%). This refers to downloads for the entire existence of the application, which was launched in 2013.
It is also noted that the rate of growth in the number of Telegram installations increased significantly in 2021. In the first half of the year, this figure reached about 214.7 million installations, which is 61% more than in the first half of last year. Experts explain such a surge in downloads by the fact that during this period, Telegram's main competitor, the WhatsApp messenger, experienced user withdrawal due to controversial privacy policy issues.
