Stripe has introduced a new version of its Link digital wallet designed to support autonomous AI agents. This marks a step toward integrating agents into the internet economy.

The update addresses a key limitation: while AI agents are becoming more capable, they still struggle to complete purchases across the web using existing payment systems. Stripe’s solution enables agents to work with the same payment methods consumers and businesses already use.

The new Link wallet for agents is built on Stripe’s Issuing infrastructure. It allows users to grant agents programmatic access to their wallet via OAuth, enabling them to request a one-time-use card or a Shared Payment Token (SPT).

Each transaction requires user approval. Consumers receive a notification and can review the context of a spend request before authorizing it through the web or mobile app. Once approved, the agent receives limited-use credentials to complete the purchase.

For developers, Link removes the need to build wallet systems from scratch. It abstracts multiple payment options, handles fund flow complexity, and provides access to a network of over 200 million users. Additional features such as spending limits, agentic tokens, and support for stablecoins are planned.
