Slack has introduced Slack Code, a new way for engineering teams to work with AI coding agents directly inside their shared workspace. Instead of running agents in private tabs, developers can bring them into a dedicated environment where teammates can follow the work and contribute in real time.
When an agent is mentioned for a development task, Slack creates a code channel around it. The space can contain plans, code diffs, and live previews, while existing permissions and admin controls remain in place. Completed channels are archived automatically but stay searchable as a record of the work.
Slack says the feature grew from its own engineering experience with AI agents. More than 70% of code channels reportedly open and close within a day, often taking a task from the initial idea to a merged pull request. The company is launching Slack Code with Anthropic, Cognition, GitHub, and Vercel, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT integration is planned for later.
Slack Code is part of a broader push to make AI agents a natural part of team workflows. The company is also developing new tools for managing agent activity across channels, threads, and direct messages.
