Perplexity has begun rolling out Personal Computer, an extension of Perplexity Computer that brings its capabilities directly to users’ devices. This update reshapes how people interact with their computers, effectively turning them into a personal assistant that helps handle everyday tasks and supports ongoing work processes.
The update enables the system to work with local files, applications, connected services, and the web. Instead of constantly switching between apps and manually completing each step, users can simply define a goal, while the system breaks it down into steps and carries out the necessary actions across different environments.
Personal Computer changes the very principle of how a personal computer is used. AI is no longer limited to individual apps or tabs. The new AI assistant from Perplexity can move between files, messages, documents, and online sources on its own, functioning as a unified system.
On Mac devices, including Mac mini, the system can run continuously and be launched from Notes using a keyboard shortcut. It can organize folders, manage to-do lists, compare local files with web data, and complete tasks across email and messaging apps.
Perplexity emphasizes control and transparency. Users can see exactly what the system is doing, intervene at any moment, and undo actions if needed. Files are processed in a secure sandboxed environment, ensuring that all operations remain safe and understandable.
Early access to Personal Computer will be available to Perplexity Max subscribers. During the broader rollout, users on the waitlist will be prioritized.
