Figma has rolled out a major product update aimed at turning its canvas into a central workspace for design, development, animation, and generative creation. The company describes the changes as part of a broader effort to unify the creative process, allowing teams to move from early ideas to finished products within a single connected environment.
A key addition is support for code layers, which lets users convert design elements into functional code blocks directly on the canvas. This makes it possible to explore multiple directions side by side while keeping everything within the same collaborative file. The feature is designed to strengthen collaboration between designers and developers and reduce friction when moving between design and implementation.
The update also introduces Figma Motion, a built-in animation system that brings timelines, keyframes, presets, and AI-generated starting points directly into the design workflow. Motion can be embedded into design systems and reused across projects, while Dev Mode provides visibility into timing and animation data for implementation.
Figma also added AI-generated shader fills and effects that can be created from prompts or reference images and adjusted interactively on the canvas. Alongside these features, the company introduced generative plugins, expanded Weave tools, and a more deeply integrated Figma agent.
Taken together, the updates reflect Figma’s shift toward a more open and modular creative environment. Instead of treating design, code, motion, and AI as separate stages, the platform increasingly brings them into one continuous workflow where ideas can be shaped, tested, and refined without leaving the canvas.
